Queens, NY (May 1, 2025): NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., a member of the Senate’s Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs Committee, is proud to announce passage of Senate Bill S.6274, a landmark piece of legislation he co-sponsors providing housing preferences for veterans with service-related disabilities under the Affordable Home Ownership Development Program. Fittingly, the bill passed on Korean War Veterans Day in Albany, a day dedicated to honoring the sacrifice and service of our nation’s heroes.

“This legislation is a meaningful step in our ongoing commitment to the brave men and women who have sacrificed for our country, “said Addabbo. “By giving preference to service-disabled veterans in affordable home ownership programs, we are not only conveying gratitude but also ensuring they have access to the stability and dignity they deserve.”

The Affordable Home Ownership Development Program is administered by NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) and is designed to increase the supply of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers. S.6274 amends the programs to prioritize veterans with service-related disabilities, recognizing the unique challenges they face in securing stable housing.

“The passage of this bill on Korean War Veterans Day underscores our commitment to honoring all veterans, past and present,” Addabbo added. “As someone who has long championed veterans’ issues, I can’t emphasize how important it is we continue to support those who have borne the physical and emotional burdens of military service.”

The legislation now moves to the Assembly Housing Committee for further consideration.
